Sensitization Seminar held on New Waste Management Rules
State Pollution Control Board Sikkim under the Forest, Environment & Wildlife Management Department, Government of Sikkim today organised a Sensitization Seminar cum Interaction programmes with the heads of the all departments and stakeholders of Sikkim on new and revised waste management rules recently notified by the Government of India.
The seminar organised by State Pollution Control Board in the Forest Conference Hall, Deorali was participated by the heads of the departments of Sikkim government along with district magistrates, municipal commissioners, and representatives from urban local bodies, divisional forest officers and representatives from line departments.
The programme started with a welcome address by Shri C S Rao, CCF cum Member Secretary (SPCB). In his welcome address, Shri C S Rao dwelt upon the comprehensive rules notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on waste management and immediate requirement of fulfilling the obligatory requirement on the part of all the stakeholders.
During the seminar, a detailed presentation was given by Dr. Thomas Chandy, Pr. Secretary cum PCCF on Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 followed by presentation on Bio-medical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2016, Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016, E-Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2016 and Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
